Amber LME

Description

Amber liquid malt extract (LME) is syrup made by concentrating wort. The blend of malts used to make amber LME is similar to those used to make amber DME: pale malt, munich malt, and crystal malt. Liquid extract just has less water water removed and therefore less sugar by weight. Both these extracts will produce beers with good malty flavors and some unfermentable sugars. Generally, the exact blend of malts used to make amber LME is not advertised and could vary between brands.

Beer Styles

Amber LME is versatile and could be used in many styles. It could be used alone to produce amber colored wort. Extract is also a good way to boost the starting gravity of any beer. Amber LME works particularly well for malty medium-colored styles like amber ale, brown ale, and brown porter. Used alone amber LME produces beers that are amber to light brown, so darker beers require the addition of some dark DME / LME or dark roast grains.
