Brown Malt
Description
This moderately toasted malt produces a rich biscuit flavor with some bitterness. It imparts a brown color. It is similar to biscuit malt, but it has undergone more kilning and has stronger flavor.
Beer Styles
Something called brown malt was historically the basis of brown porters. Modern brown malt is different from historical brown malt, but some brown malt can still be a nice addition to brown porters. It is also good for other malty English styles: mild, Southern English brown ale, Northern English brown ale, and robust porter.
