Magnum (US)

Alpha-Acid (%)

10.0 - 14.0

Description

US-grown Magnum hops impart a relatively clean and unobtrusive bitterness. They have high concentrations of alpha-acids. The Magnum cultivar was originally developed in Hull, Germany and is grown extensively in the Hallertau region as well as the US. Although, the Magnum hops grown in Germany have slightly higher alpha-acids on average. Magnum is descended from Galena. Magnum works well as a bittering addition followed by later additions of other hop cultivars with more interesting aromas. Although, it can impart a subtle spicy, floral, and citrus flavors of its own, these flavors will generally be lost behind its strong bitterness.
