Rolled Oats

Description

Old fashioned oats straight from the grocery store shelf (or local homebrew store). These grains contribute lots of beta-glucans and protein, producing a stongly creamy mouthfeel. They are a key ingredient for brewing oatmeal stouts. They are made in a similar process to flaked barley and flaked wheat. They have been pre-gelatinized for cooking as oatmeal, but this also makes them easier to mash. Instant and quick cooking varieties are further processed, cut up slightly after rolling to increase surface area or even pre-cooked a little.
